Hoop dance

Are you interested in burning 400 calories an hour while having lots of fun with this joyful tool of movement? This high-energy, full-body exercise has changed my life, bringing me as a teacher (mostly to the underprivileged) to over 20 countries. Hooping is for anyone, even with no background in dance, and beginners are certainly welcome!

Every class starts with hoop stretching and cardio, and ends with a creative cool down. New hoop tricks, drills, and combinations will be explored. This class will be tailored to your needs as a hoop dancer, fitness enthusiast and movement artist. Fun is guaranteed!

Workout & Worship

This fun, worshipful aerobic workout is designed to tone your body and lift up your soul. Completely tailored to your fitness ability, each class involves a lot of deep stretching (with and without a hoop), upbeat cardio, hoop dance, muscle strengthening, use of props in toning exercises, balance work, and high-energy movement. Each class will give an opportunity for creative expression, worship dance (prayer to God using your body), and space for personal prayer & reflection.

5-color movement meditation session

At Hoola for Happiness, we use the 5 colors on our hoops to tell the story of a transformed life. Based on these colors and the feelings/rhythms associated, a session can be designed for you (or a group) to facilitate creative movement, new forms of expression, inner healing, dance exploration, and freedom of the body, mind and soul. The focus is on movement and imagination, not dance technique. Some sessions will involve more dance for advanced movers, while other sessions will involve more journaling, artistic expression or meditation.

Disclaimer: I am not a therapist, and these creative sessions are not designed to take the place of professional counseling for issues of trauma. They are simply a tool to invite joy, freedom and healing into the body and mind through creativity, play, exercise, prayer and inspiration in a safe space.

Hoola pregnancy & postpartum workouts

All Hoola Doula clients in Atlanta get one FREE Hoola Stretch & Workout class in my home dance studio, plus a handmade hoop to take home for pregnancy or postpartum exercises.

Pregnancy classes include lots of stretching, exercises focusing on core balance, stability and pelvic mobility & some fun cardio/dance moves as well. No prior workout or dance experience needed! We also use the hoop as a reference point to try out various labor positions and as a “safe space” to practice breathing & meditative exercises as birth prep.

Postpartum classes are a gentle return to movement and exercise with stretching, strengthening and a focus on the core. This is a slow introduction into cardio & toning with hoop dance and hooping on the waist to restore abdominal muscles and strength.

Both classes are a FUN way to move, dance, stretch, breathe and enjoy your amazing life-giving body, with a focus on your mental health as well!
